Kelowna's proximity to Vancouver makes the area also a favourite holiday destination for people from the Lower Mainland. Since the Coquihalla connecting highway was built in the 1980's, it is now only a six hour 470 kilometre drive from the BC Coast.
Along the scenic route to the City of Kelowna, one passes in the Central Okanagan Valley the locations of Peachland BC and Westbank BC before crossing the new Bennett bridge to the Okanagan Lake east side. 30 kilometres north is Lake Country BC including the communities of Winfield, Oyama and Carrs Landing. 10 minutes north again, one crosses into the North Okanagan and arrives at Coldstream BC and Vernon BC.
Kelowna BC offers every modern amenity and the City of Kelowna has been hard at work to develop a thriving safe community for families and businesses to succeed. Visitors enjoy miles of beautiful Okanagan lakshore, panoramic valley vistas and views to the Westside of Okanagan Lake and The Bluffs.
If you're looking for resort style living with an active lifestyle and famous Okanagan recreation on the water, the Big White ski slopes, or long sunny summer weather then Kelowna BC is the Canadian city you are seeking. Boaters, kayakers, waterskiers and wakeboarders will tell you the water fun reaches a peak in Kelowna.
The city is also the site of the annual Kelowna International Dragonboat Festival. Many public events take advantage of the lakeside setting in Kelowna BC. Summer afternoons and evenings are the setting for 'Music in the Park' located in the Downtown's City Park, which has attracted some well-known acts to play. The lagoons are the site for more music concerts, having featured the music acts such as David Usher and the Powder Blues. Kelowna entertainment does not stop there, as nearby Prospera Place has featured concerts by the Bare Naked Ladies, Cher, and Elton John to name a few.
